Long-Term Recruitment Activities
(1) Participated in programs designed to promote outreach generally (vi)-
This past year KOOD continued its partnership with Fort Hays State University providing the opportunity for students majoring in Communications to learn about the field of broadcasting by working on a weekly live program produced by KOOD at the university’s facilities. Our Director of Production this past year worked with an area highschool class assisting the teacher in helping the students learn how to film and produce videos. This outreach service was another opportunity for KOOD to discuss and promote the field of broadcasting.
(2) Continued our established training program for station personnel (viii)-
KOOD has on-going development opportunities for staff to learn new skills and to qualify for higher-level positions. When the budget allows, KOOD encourages travel to conferences for these opportunities. This year in addition to our CEO and two senior staff managers and two mid-level managers were sent to conferences or training sessions held by the professional broadcasting organizations such as those held by the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). In addition, KOOD has periodic staff meetings and a monthly meeting comprised of mid-level directors and senior managers in which station business and opportunities are discussed.
(3) Provided training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring EEO and preventing discrimination (xiv) -
All management level personnel undergo consistent training as it relates to equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination. All new employees are required to watch a video of a taped training session presented by a professional on methods of ensuring the prevention of discrimination and sexual harassment. The station is in the process of revising and reviewing it’s employee handbook including KOOD’s current discrimination and sexual harassment policies.
(4) Participated in activities that further disseminated information as to employment opportunities in broadcasting (xvi) –
Tours of KOOD’s facilities for community, education, and youth groups were given that included information about jobs that are performed by station personnel and general information about careers in broadcasting.
(5)The following staff members took part in an online RF Safety training course.
